HyperChrome levels explained, from level 1 to level 5
HyperChromes are the most confusing part of Jailbreak trading for new players, mostly because the naming is a mess. People say things like dia 5, blue lvl 4, or hyperpink 3, and everyone is expected to know what that means.
Here is the whole system in plain terms, plus the shorthand you will actually see in trade chats.
What a HyperChrome is
A HyperChrome is a colour-shifting vehicle paint. Unlike normal paint, it levels up. Each level is a separate tradeable item with its own value, and higher levels are worth substantially more than lower ones.
There are five levels. Level 1 is the entry point and level 5 is the fully upgraded version. The jump in value between level 4 and level 5 is much larger than the jump between level 1 and level 2.
How leveling works
You raise a HyperChrome level by completing in-game objectives tied to that paint. It takes real time, which is exactly why higher levels carry a premium. You are paying for the hours somebody else already put in.
Because leveling is one directional, a level 5 can never go back down. That makes high level HyperChromes a fairly stable store of value compared to event vehicles.
The shorthand traders use
Almost nobody types the full name. Learn these and trade chats stop being confusing.
- dia, diamond, hyperdiamond all mean the diamond HyperChrome.
- blue5, blue lvl 5, blue level 5 and hyperblue 5 all mean the same item.
- A bare number after a colour is always the level, never a quantity.
- Engraved is a different item entirely and is not a HyperChrome level.
Which colours hold value
Colour preference is mostly cosmetic taste, and taste moves. Diamond and the darker shades tend to stay in demand because they suit most vehicle builds. Brighter colours spike around events and settle afterwards.
If you are buying to hold rather than to use, level matters far more than colour. A level 5 in an unpopular colour usually beats a level 2 in a popular one.
Common mistakes when buying
The most frequent mistake is agreeing to a price for a level 5 and receiving a lower level, because the trade window shows the paint but people skim the level. Read the item name in full before accepting.
The second mistake is assuming all levels scale evenly. They do not. Check each level individually against a value list rather than guessing from the level 1 price.
Common questions
Is HyperChrome level 5 always the best buy?
It holds value best, but the price gap is large. If you mainly want the look, a lower level is far cheaper and looks similar in game.
Can a HyperChrome lose its level?
No. Levels only go up, and the level travels with the item when it is traded.
What does hyperdia mean?
It is shorthand for the diamond HyperChrome. If a number follows it, that number is the level.
