A plain glossary of Jailbreak trading terms
Trade chats move fast and assume you already know the shorthand. This is the vocabulary, written out properly, so you can read an offer without guessing.
Trade outcome terms
These describe whether a trade helped you. They are relative to a value list, so two people can disagree honestly.
- WFL means win, fair, or loss. Someone asking WFL wants your judgement on a trade.
- Win means you gained value. Loss means you gave up more than you got.
- Fair means both sides are within a few percent of each other.
- Overpay means deliberately giving extra value, usually to get a high demand item.
Item condition terms
These describe the item itself rather than the deal.
- Clean means the item has no dupe history.
- Duped means it came from a copying exploit and trades below clean value.
- Limited means it can no longer be obtained in game.
- Seasonal means it returns during a specific event each year.
Inventory strategy terms
You will hear these when people talk about what to hold.
- Downgrade means trading one large item for several smaller ones.
- Upgrade means combining several items into one larger one.
- Flip means buying with the intention of trading it on quickly.
- Liquid describes an item that is easy to trade at any time.
Process terms
These come up when arranging the trade itself.
- Middleman is a third party holding both sides during a trade.
- Going first means sending your side before receiving anything, which is how most scams start.
- Add means a small item thrown in to balance a trade.
- Demand describes how many people currently want the item, separate from its value.
Common questions
What does WFL stand for?
Win, fair, or loss. It is a request for an opinion on whether a proposed trade is good.
Is overpaying always bad?
No. Overpaying for something in high demand is often the fastest way to get an item you can trade on easily.
What is a downgrade for?
It turns one hard to trade item into several easier ones, which makes future trades much simpler.
